Got a Gwinnett County tax sale notice? Here is what happens next, and how to stop it.
A Gwinnett County tax sale notice means the county plans to sell the house on a first Tuesday, in front of the Justice and Administration Center in Lawrenceville. You can stop it by paying everything owed before that day. If it does sell, you still have one year to buy it back. Below are our own counts from the county's lists, and every option side by side.

How does the Gwinnett County tax sale work?
The sale
A first Tuesday, in front of the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center at 75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville. The county holds sales only a few months a year.
The ad
Four weeks in a row in the Gwinnett Daily Post. The county also writes to the owner, and to any lender, before the sale.
What stops it
Pay everything owed before the sale and it is off. Once the house is levied, the county takes only cash, a cashier's check, or a money order. It takes no part payments then. A levy does not change your right to live there.
After the sale
You have 12 months to buy it back. The price is what the bidder paid plus 20 percent, plus any taxes the bidder paid since.

When is the next Gwinnett County tax sale?
Gwinnett sells on a first Tuesday, but only a few months a year. The county posts the date on its home page and in the Gwinnett Daily Post ad. The next date we have is at the top of this page.
There is a sign on my house. Do I have to move out?
No. In Gwinnett a levy can mean a sign posted on the house. It does not change who owns it, and you can keep living there.
Does Gwinnett offer a payment plan?
No. Before a levy the county takes part payments, but it has no formal plans, and part payments do not keep the house off the sale. After a levy it takes no part payments at all.
My house sold at the Gwinnett tax sale. Is it gone?
No. The bidder has to give you one year to buy it back. The price is what they paid plus 20 percent, plus any taxes they paid since.

Gwinnett says it does not sell its tax liens in bulk to investors. Call the tax office to check before you pay anyone.
